Scotland’s only Household Regiment the Scots Guards have been granted custody of Britain’s highest Military award at their home headquarters in Edinburgh Castle. Captain Charles the Lord Lyell, 1st Battalion, Scots Guards, was awarded a posthumous Victoria Cross for outstanding leadership and gallantry fighting in North Africa (Dj Bou Arara, Tunisia) 22-27 April 1943. His family have decided to donate his medals to the Regiment, where they will be housed in the Guards Museum, Wellington Barracks

One of the core roles of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards (SCOTS DG) as Light Cavalry is reconnaissance and target observation. As part of their training for this members of the Regiment travelled to Cape Wrath in the far North West of Scotland to practice night time recce, gaining experience in travel and observation in darkness and difficult weather conditions.
