This is a Florida worm lizard (Rhineura floridana), also called a thunderworm! While this looks like an earthworm, it's a burrowing legless reptile. The rings are actually scales and they use that flat snoot like a shovel. They mostly eat insects and earthworms, and are usually less than 12 inches long. And no, they don't bite! They're sometimes called thunderworms because they can get flooded out of their burrows during our big Florida thunderstorms. This species lives almost exclusively in Flo

FL WORM LIZARD!! Neither a worm or even a lizard, this strange little creature is in its own grouping Rhineuridae. I was excited and just talking off the top of my head in the video and even mixed up their classification! But I already let the worm lizard go back into the wild so there’s no redoing the video after properly reading up 😂. “Amphisbaen” is a term often used colloquially to refer to any member of the family Amphisbaenidae, which includes the group of reptiles commonly known as worm

The Florida Worm Lizard (Rhineura floridana) is a rare reptile endemic to Florida & Georgia. This lizard is not only weird because it lacks legs & look like worms but, they have no external eyes! The eyes are covered by their scales! Florida Worm Lizards are just so cool!
