The court heard victim impact statements from Kayla’s friend, surviving victims, and family members who described grief, trauma, anxiety, and PTSD after the attempted robbery and shooting. The defense asked for 25 years and presented statements from Stein, his mother, and his best friend, but the judge imposed a life sentence. Kayla was killed after leaving a movie with friends in Cape Coral.
